Microsoft AutoUpdate (MAU) version 3.18 and later includes the msupdate command-line tool. This can be used to start the update process for Microsoft applications produced for Mac, such as Office. The tool is primarily designed for IT administrators so that they have more precise control over when updates are applied. You can download the latest version of MAU from this link.

Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016 for Mac is innovative and easy-to-use. The software is simple enough for new users and adaptive enough to keep up with advanced users. Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac lets a user create spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Excel documents and much more. If the Update option is missing or you're unable to update, try Microsoft Update to install your Office updates through Windows. To download an update manually, see Office Updates. If you would like to update Office but can't open any of your Office apps, try repairing your Office suite: Go to Control Panel Programs Uninstall a program.

msupdate works by sending Apple Events to the MAU daemon. On macOS 10.14 Mojave and later, you may see a privacy prompt when running msupdate for the first time. If you are using an enterprise management tool such as Jamf Pro, you should deploy a Privacy Preferences Policy Control (PPPC) payload to pre-approve access. Use the following steps to start using the tool:

I tried removing the plist files.Manually dragging the Office 2008 folder to the trash, emptying the trash and reinstalling but I still get the same error.I know Office2008 is not supported by Customer Service but I would really like to be able to install the software I have paid for. I suspect it's a problem with the old 2008 I had but when I go the Applications folder there was nothing there after I removedit.Any help would be much appreciated. It said the installation was successful but I still get the message - Office for Mac has determined that your product key is not valid. Mactopia. My Mac is running on Mountain Lion.

  1. Open the Terminal application
  2. Enter cd /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/Microsoft AutoUpdate.app/Contents/MacOS
  3. Run ./msupdate --help

Note

  • If an update is pending for MAU itself, that update must be applied before any applications can be updated.
  • Identifiers are not case-sensitive when run interactively from the command-line, but use the character casing from the table above when running from a management tool such as Jamf Pro.
